Mobile shelving (also known as mobile aisle shelving, compactus, or roller racking) consists of shelving units fitted with wheeled traction systems. These units can be closely packed when access is not required and readily moved to open an aisle for access. This eliminates the need for permanent aisles, allowing for much higher storage capacity in the same footprint compared to conventional fixed shelving.
Each unit is mounted on a level trackway, making it possible to move heavy loads with minimal effort. Systems can be operated manually or via electrical motors.
